Did he shed tears? If he did then maybe they were tears of sadness because he was going to jail and that his stepdaughter had died and the murderer would never be caught because everyone thought it was him.

Or they could be tears of happiness for some strange reason like maybe the reason that he was a psychopath/psycomaniac (whatever it is)/psycho____

Or they could be tears of guilt because he really did it. But no one knows do they? Unless of course he says that they are tears of guilt and that he did it which clears the whole case up unless he is a pyscho something and that he didn't know what he was saying.
