1) What exactly is the Black Thing? I think it represents sadness and evil.
2)I think I can imagine what it would be like on a 2d planet. I would feel so compressed. It would be like, your a walking stick.
3)Among the three children,(Calvin, Charles and Meg,) Meg is the one who worries most as i think she feels insecure and inferior to others.
4) At first, i thought the tesseract was some kind of creature. But i understand after reading chapter 5.
5)How can a star materialise and take the form of an old lady?
1) When I was reading the first part of Chapter 6, I felt like kissing Mrs Whatsit too because it is very honourable to die fighting the Black Thing. (especially when being a star would be so fun)
2) I wonder why Charles Wallace seems to know a lot, especially on tessering. He seems very matured and is better at making inferences than Meg or Calvin.
3) When I read the part about the explanation of tessering, I was amazed as I have never thought about it before. How was the author able to think so creatively?
4) Charles Wallace is able to distinguish good and bad. For example, he knew that Mrs Who, Mrs Which and Mrs Whatsit are good and the Black Thing is evil.
5) I understand Meg’s feelings when Mrs Whatsit was explaining the concept of the tesseract and when they were tessering. She must have felt that it was very new and strange.
1)I wonder how can a star materialize.
2)I do not think that Meg should be worried about Charles Wallace, he is very smart (his IQ proves it)
3)I can relate to Meg as I would be very scared if I would be tessering.
4)I think that The Black Thing represents evil, sorrow and strife.
5)I wonder how was Charles able to distinguish good and evil (it might be that the 3 Mrs. W's were evil).
1) I have a characteristic that I share with Meg; I cannot understand concepts very fast. Like if a person says that in some sentences there can be two ‘had’ in some sentences, I would be confused and I wound not understand why is that so.(I do not have that problem anymore. I understood already.)
2) I would also feel afraid of the Black Thing in real life (by the description of it) like Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin.
3) I sometimes feel like Meg in Camazotz when I knew that something was wrong but I do not know what exactly it is until later. Like once I entered a dusty room I feel that something is wrong but I wound not know that it is because of the dust that makes the room weird until later.
4) I would feel like Calvin when he saw The Black Thing covering Earth. Like when somebody covers my favourite toy with a disgusting handkerchief, I wound hate the person.
5) I felt like giving Mrs Whatsit a medal or something like what Charles Wallace did as she sacrificed herself to defeat the Black Thing because she could choose to continue living and do not save the ‘thing on attack’.
1. What exactly is the Black Thing? What is it that makes it so scary?
2. I can imagine Charles Wallace anger after nearly landing on the d planet.
3. Why will breathing through the flowers allow Meg and the children to get more oxygen?
4. Being a Charles Wallace is not easy as well. as a prodigy, you are expected to know many things that you might not know.
5. Why did the 3 women bow to the Happy Medium. Is the Happy Medium their master?
1. I understand why is the Black Thing so scary because I think that it means misery and evilness.
2. I understand that Charles Wallace much smarter than Meg or Calvin as he is able to understand a lot dispite of his age.
3. Is there such a thing as a flower being able to provide oxygen once you breathe from it.
4. I do not understand what exactly is the Happy Medium but I know that it provided them with some help.
5. I can understand that Charles Wallace is very angry after landing on the 2D planet.
1) I think that the Black thing is how the author tries to explain evil, sin, sadness and is somewhat like satan, whearby all the world's great people like Jesus and Michaelangelo fight against.
2)I can connect with Meg as if i had suddenly felt the sensation of tessering without warinig, i too would be shaken.
3)I think being in a 2D planet would be a little like appaprating, when you feel like you are in a tight tube (in this case between two walls) and your lungs cannot expand. I think it would be horrible.
4)I feel that Mrs. Whatsit was very brave, to give up her life as a star to save a planet. I think someone should have made her and many others a statue as they have performed a great feat.
5)In Camazotz, i think i would feel the same way as Charles Wallace had when he talked to the boy. I would realise something was strage with that boy.
P.S. i accidentally posted twice for the same reflections, so i deleted the previous message.
1. The description that the book gave about Meg first time tessering is like travelling through time.
2. The butterflies were Mrs Which.
3. The part about breathing through flowers seems wrong as flowers do not photosynthesis and give out oxygen. It should have been a leaf instead.
4. The black thing is like a hell where there is the devil, hades and underworld gods.
5. When I read the part of who on earth fought the black thing, i thought of the the knights templar. Maybe the treasure that they have might be a weopon to defeat the black thing.
Hi, Ryan here.
1) I feel that almost landing on a 2-D planet (chapter 4) is life threatening so Mrs Who, Whatsit and Which shouldn't have been laughing.
2) I wonder why Mrs Who thinks that Mrs Whatsit is naive, considering she is so intelligent (in the way that of the three, she is the best actress as a human).
3) Charles Wallace seems to know much more than what they are about to do than Meg and Calvin. How does he know so much.
4) Meg should know more than Calvin, due to the fact that her mother was intelligent but she seemed not to be able to realise some concepts and stuff.
5) I feel that tessering is highly unlikely in the next five years but a breakthrough might happen. I would like to experience it before I die. That might be my final wish (if it isn't discovered in the next hundred years or so).
1) I can connect with Meg because I would be afraid, too, if it was my first time tessering.
2) I share a same characteristic with Meg--I cannot pick up new concepts immediately.
3) I feel that Mrs Whatsit is very kind to give up her life fighting the Black Thing.
4) I can understand why Charles Wallace got very angry when they landed on a two-dimensional planet.
5) I wonder how it feels like to land on a two-dimensional planet.
1. I feel that Mrs Who, Which and Whatsit should be more careful in sending them to a 2D planet. I feel the same emotions Charles experiences when he had a close shave with death.
2. The concept of tessering must be hard to grasp when the children first heard.
3. Mrs Whatsit is very brave to be a star who gave up its life in battle against the black thing. But according to the Big Bang theory, the particles that made us were from stars...
4. I wonder, were the creatures on Uriel angels...
5. Mrs Whatsit said she was chosen for a mission by someone. Who sent her, and on what mission?
6) How on Earth do you fight the Black Thing?
1) What actually is the Black Thing and why is it so scary.
2) I think Mrs Whatsit is extremely brave and kind to actually give up her live to fight the Black Thing.
3) I feel that Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which and Mrs. Whatsit should not be so casual and be more cautious when landing on the 2-D planet.
4) Just like Charles, I would also feel very angry after landing on the 2-D planet.
5) What exactly was the happy medium and why did Mrs Who, Mrs Which and Mrs. Whatsit bow to it?
7) On Camazotz, Charles Wallace could not understand anything. He should not be used to this. He should be highly intelligent.
1)Mrs Whatsit took the children to the black thing. They all knew that it was Evil and they all disliked it.
2)I know that while tessering, you will feel uncomfortable and, sometimes, painful.
3)The three Wsloved their trips to the second dimension, But to Meg it was like torture.
4)The black thing had covered earth, and that was the reason why earth was filled with sin.
5)The children found out Mrs Whatsit was a star and that she had defeated the Black Thinng once(when she was a star).
1) If I were Meg, I would be very afraid i went on this journey. It is very scary if suddenly you are seperated from your loved ones and have simply no sensation in your limbs at a certain part of the journey.
2) Meg should not be so worried about Charles Wallace. After all, he IS an extraordinary boy.
3) I am a bit like Meg. I cannot pick up new concepts very fast. I have to think through it a couple of times before i understand it.
4) If I were Charles, when i returned the ball to the boy, I would sense that something in Camazotz was very "wrong".
5) I cannot connect with Meg because I would not like being in a 2D planet where everything feels squashed up. I would find breathing very difficult.
1)I know how Meg felt when landing on a 2D planet suddenly, feeling flat and breathless.
2)I think that the Black Thing is full of evil and Meg will be afraid to see it.
3)I wonder if other magical flowers can also help the children breathe.
4)I think Meg is more afraid when tessering as she is less fit than the two boys and cannot cope up with them.(and the three Ws.)
5)I understand how the children felt when they knew that Mrs Whatsit bravely died to fight the Black Thing.
1. I feel that Mrs Whatsit is very brave as she sacrificed herself to defeat the Black Thing, when she could have continued living.
2. What exactly is the Black thing? What makes it so dangerous?
3. How come the flowers were able to provide them with oxygen?
4. As Charles Wallace is such an intelligent person, I think that Meg should not be so worried about him.
5. The Mrs W's should have more careful when they brought Meg, Calvin and Charles Wallace to the
2D planet. Realising what they did, they should not have laughed.
1. I wouldn't want to go to the 2-D planet. I think you would feel like a pancake.
2.A star isn't alive!
3.I feel that I can connect with Meg since I will feel confused when being tessered without warning.
4. Like Meg, I cannot understand the concepts about tessering. It feels so new and strange.
1. I think that I can connect with Meg as I sometimes have problems understanding concepts.
2. Before reading chapter 5, I thought that a tesseract was a creature. But now I realise that a tesseract is the fifth dimension.
3. I would feel the same way as Charles as I would also be very angry if I had been on the 2D planet and had been 'completely flattened out by an enormous steamroller'.
4. I think that Meg should not have worried about Charles Wallace as he was very smart.
5. I can connect with the Happy Medium as I will also complain when I am forced to do something I do not want to do.
1. I would have been afraid of the Black Thing because I am afraid of misery, evil, loneliness, ect.
2. I do think that Charles Wallace is a born genius. He knows lots of things despite his age. I wonder why......
3. If I was Meg in the story, I would have felt very grateful to Mrs Whatsit as I think it is very brave to sacrifice your life to save the earth by fighting the Black Thing.
4. I am sure it must have felt like being a roti prata under a rolling pin when they were on the 2D planet. I wonder if we really could be 2D, will it be fun?
5. I don't think the Mrs Ws should have been laughing after they left the 2D planet, if they had stayed there longer, Meg, Charles Wallace and Kelvin could have died. I understand why Charles Wallace felt
angry.
I am sorry, I acidentally posted two comments so I deleted one.
1)I would never like to go to the two-dimensional planet, although if I went there and come back alive and with all my fat gone, that would be good.
2)The way they described the Black Thing it sounded like a shadow but far more scary than a normal one and while reading that part I felt like skipping the page and when it was over I felt relieved and curious.
3)I like Happy Medium, she always wants to be jolly and did not like going to see the sad event she was told to and even after looking at it she tried to cheer the children up so they know there was hope.
4)If I was in the situation of Meg trying to learn what the tesseract was I would have been even more confused than Meg was and in my mind I have no idea how to picture the tesseract from the book.
5)If I was a star and the Black Thing came along I would have also given up my life to push away the Black Thing especially if I am the closest star to the planet being attacked by the Black Thing, not only because I would have to keep away the Black Thing also because as the last star in the line of stars protecting the planet it is up to me.
1) The Black Thing was a shadow. It could be living thing, or a representation of something negative and dark.
2) I agree with Charles that Mrs Who could have killed them in the 2D planet and Mrs Who should not have been amused with it.
3) I feel that Mrs Who, Mrs Whatsit and Mrs Which should not be too stern with the Medium and commanded her to look into the ball.
4) I feel that Mrs Whatsit did a really noble thing by doing what a star is supposed to do.
5) I do not think that the Medium helped them much.
1)The black thing is evil and was darkness.
2)I think Meg is an interesting character. I like Meg's character. I also like reading about people like Meg.
3)I would not want to tesseract as I do not like the feeling of loneliness and feel like nothing.
4)I like Charles Wallace. He is very smart and matured
5)I do not like Camazotz.People all being the same feels weird
I'm Siau Chiak
1)The black thing represents evil and sadness but what exactly is it?
2)Why did Meg say that Mrs Which can be trusted? In my opinion, I would not trust a person who speaks like that.
3) What is it like on a two-dimensional planet? We would be so flat that if a sheet of paper was in front of us, we could not see over the edge of it!
4) What is a medium? (as in 'happy medium')
5)Why is life so odd? Children play at the same time, they go back at the same time, and when Charles wanted to give the ball back to the little boy, his mother asked if he had any papers.
1. The black thing must be very frightening and unpleasant as the children were scared and did not want to look at it.
2. The limited understanding of Meg shows me how the human mind is inflexible and unable to except things.
3.The youth of the beings like Mrs Who is very old in our measures of time since they can 'alter' time.
4.Meg admired Charles Wallace very much.
5.The CENTRAL central intelligence is very powerful, from how the people on the planet Camaztoz responded to hearing or saying it.
Reflections:
1) I feel that Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Which and Mrs Who should have told Meg and her friends about tessering. It is very scary if you just go into a place with no light, feeling and sound without warning.
2) I think that Mrs Whatsit's species is actually a kind of mix breed between a unicorn and a centaur. She was also a star before but she gave up her life, I wonder if all the creatures on Uriel had the same past too.
3) If I went to the 2-dimensional planet, I would probably give up and be squashed. It would be impossible to survive there even for a while.
4) Faults are supposed to be bad like the Black Thing, it is not meant to be for good. Charles listened to Mrs Whatsit but still chose to be arrogant, I do not like his attitude at all.
5) It would be very hard to live in Camazotz. Everything is so perfect that you cannot have freedom. You do not even have the time to be free. I cannot understand how the people can live there without happiness and fun!
1.I would also be afraid of the black thing.
2. I feel that Meg was not too accepting or friendly and this caused her problems at school.
3.The medium should try to be more helpful
4. If I were Charles, I would have enjoyed going through the 2 dimensional planet
5.If Mrs Whatsit died as a star, how can she still be alive?
1) I really do not like Meg sometimes. When the creatures on Uriel were making music, she demanded to know what they were singing. Was it important?
2) I cannot imagine how words and thoughts can be flattened out, but being squashed is something I can imagine.
3) If Mrs Whatsit was more than 2.37 billion years old, how old could Mrs Which be?
4) I think the Happy Medium was quite selfish. Mrs Which was right, if responsible people do not do something for the unpleasant things, there would not be pleasant things for the Medium to see at all.
5) How could Mrs Whatsit previously be a star? I find this quite difficult to believe.
I would like to edit my fourth reflection. I would have enjoyed going through the 2D planet, if I were not squeezed mercilessly.
8)I would love to be on a 2-D planet, if the conditions were the same as 3-D planets.
9) I can hardly believe that Mrs Which, Who or Whatsit would be so clumsy to do such a thing.
10) The flower on Uriel enables the three kids to breathe normally. However, a flower does not photosynthesize and therefore, will not produce oxygen to keep the three kids alive.
11)
Oops, I was thinking of number 11 when I accidentally posted.
Sorry Mrs Simon I posted so late because I could not connect to the internet.
Here are my reflections.
1) What is the black thing and why is it so scary?
2) I think that Mrs Whatsit is very brave to give up her life to save a planet.
3) I can think of how it would feel to be on a 2D planet. It would feel very compressed and like you are stuck to a wall.
4) Charles Wallace seems to know much more than Meg and Calvin. Where did he know all this from?
5)Mrs Whatsit said she was chosen for a mission by someone. Who sent her, and on what mission?
I accidentaly posted twice so I deleted the first one. Sorry.
hi mrs simon (:
Dear Mrs Simon, this is Alex. I know this is late, but I completely forgot about it. I am really very sorry.
1) How was it the Children and the three Mrs Ws could tesseract? Perhaps it was because the three Mrs Ws somehow managed to concentrate their brain to power to the extent that it could rearrange atoms.
2) How did Mrs Whatsit manage to transform into the angelic creature? Perhaps it was because Stars had the ability to take on disguises.
3)The flower used to give the children oxygen may have been able to produce so much oxygen because it had certain properties allowing it to photosynthesise much faster, taking in the children's carbon dioxide and giving out oxygen.
4)Why is the black thing, well, black? Perhaps because it is the carrier of all things bad, which is normally represented by black (light is good, black is bad)
5)The two-dimensional planet must have been awful. It is quite painful to imagine that it is impossible to breathe, not being able to think and also the fact that your heart cannot beat. This part of the novel could be trying to portray that humans cannot live on a two-dimensional planet.
tesser alex, tesser
wrong form of word
Sorry Mrs Simon this is really late but I forgot all about it.
1.I think the Black Thing so scary because it represents evil and darkness
2.I can understand why Charles Wallace is so angry on landing on the 2D planet.
3. Charles Wallace seems very matured and knows alot of things. I wonder why?
4.How come the flowers were able to provide them with oxygen?
5.How did Mrs Whatsit change her form? Did stars have abilities to metamorphose?
hi mrs simon (:
1.What is the black thing made of, like where did it come from?
2. The Mrs Ws were realy forgetful to bring Meg,Charles and Calvin to a 2D planet.
3.Why is the Happy Medium in Orions belt? I thought Orions belt were made up of three stars?
4.Who exactly is the Happy Medium?
5.I really think that the town in Camazotz is really computer like and is very strict and everyone is the same.
Sorry Mrs Simon. Its very late but I forgot to check the blog and I was absent.
I am not like Meg in the sense that I can pick up concepts easily, even if I do not understand them fully.
1. I think that I can connect with all the children as I would also have been afraid if i saw the Black Thing.
2. I feel that Meg should not have felt worried about Charles as he was no ordinary boy and she did not know how much he could take.
3. I feel that I can connect with Meg as I sometimes also have trouble understanding concepts.
4.I can also connect with Charles as I would also have been very angry if I were him after going through the 2D planet.
5. I can connect with the Medium as well as I will also complain when I am required to do something I do not want to do.
What is the Black Thing? It comes and goes suddenly.
Why did the 3 Mrs W s pay respect to The Happy Medium by bowing?
How did they breathe at the 2d planet?
I think that the children are not familliar to the tesserract.
I think we will be flat on the 2d planet
I am thinking that if Mrs Whatsit is more than two billion years old and if she was naive and young, I am guessing that Mrs Which is about 10 billion years old... A bit too old to be a human...
1) What is the Black Thing?
2) How does a star materialise? I think that is almost impossible. Stars are dead.
3) Charles Wallace is a lot smarter than Meg or Calvin.
4) Mr. Whatsit was very brave because she gave up her life as a star.
5) I wonder how it would feel like to land on a two-dimensianal planet.
